以下弁論全文

“Hurry up and get ready for school!”
“I’ve told you a million times, clean up your room!”
“Have you done your homework?”
“Go to bed, right now! How many times do I have to tell you?”
I usually answer back to my mother, “You don’t have to remind me all the time. I know! Just leave me alone!”
Like most young teenagers, I was a bit of a rebel.
Last year, I happened to see a life-changing TV commercial which was made in Thailand. The story was about a teenage daughter living alone with her deaf-mute father. Can you imagine living alone with a father that can not hear what you say or have a normal conversation with you? The daughter seemed to hate her father. She didn’t even want her friends to know about him.
One day, using sign language, she said to him, “I want a better father, someone who is not a deaf-mute. I want a dad like everyone else’s; someone who can listen to my hopes and fears.” He was clearly devastated by her words. I was shocked because I had never thought about having another mother.
The daughter began to spend time with bad kids and was fighting at school all the time. She was blocking her father out of her life, often locking herself in her room, or simply ignoring him.
On her birthday, the father was sitting alone in front of the birthday cake practicing a speech to her, “I was born a deaf-mute. I am sorry for that. But I just want you to know that I love you with all my heart. You are my world.”
Sensing something wrong, he went up to her room and found her lying in a pool of blood. She had slashed her wrists. The father carried her in his arms to the hospital. He was so poor that they refused to give her any blood. She was dying. The father decided to give her his own blood. Using sign language, he spoke to his unconscious daughter, “There are no perfect fathers. But a father will always try to love his children perfectly. Remember to care for those who care for you”.
When the daughter woke up, she found her father lying on the next bed. He wasn’t moving. . . He was dead. He had sacrificed his life for her.
I was so moved by the father’s deep love for his daughter even though she had been so mean to him. I couldn’t stop crying.
To tell the truth, my mother and I had a big fight just before I saw that commercial. I can’t even remember what the fight was about but we had completely stopped talking to each other. I was so angry with her.
The commercial helped me realize why my mother always tells me what to do all the time. She is worried about me. She loves me. My anger toward my mother suddenly disappeared.
My mother later said that, without question, she would also give her life for me. Thinking about it, even when we fight, my mother continues to take care of me. She brings me little snacks when I am studying in my room and she is always the first one to start talking after a fight. She always puts me first.
I saw a little of myself in the rebellious teenage girl in the story. I remembered the times I completely forgot my mother’s birthday, the times I completely ignored her when she was nagging me. Even the one time I said, “I hate you!” I apologized to my mother for all the bad things I had done.
The commercial gave me a new understanding about what it means to be a parent. As teenagers, we are often selfish, and even mean to our parents. We struggle just looking after ourselves. Parents, on the other hand, are just the opposite. Parents are usually selfless and loving. Maybe, it is that selfless love that keeps families together.
I am very lucky to have a mother who cares about me. Unfortunately, not all parents are like that. In 10 or 15 years,
I will probably be a mother. I really hope I can be as selfless and loving as my mother is.
